It's believed that when Johnny(the youngest) was born, their mother died if not during birth shortly after. Johnny and Abbie were given to cousins, Montgomery's, to raise on their farm because the father couldn't take care
of the two youngest. All of this took place around Hope, AK.
I have sent for Abbie and Ruth's Social Security applications hoping their parents name will be there and their birth places. Does anyone have some Hope's in Arkansas that may be related?

I am researching my Fathers Family Tree. I have been very luck this summer with the help of another researcher, Linda Hope, I located a long lost GGrandmother Vashti Quinn. I am still working on my Grandfathers siblings..
The earliest date I have is for Caleb Hope 1819. I will be glad to share as soon as I fill in some blanks.
Thank you, Bernice
Marty Hope
Read with interest your accounts and information regarding the Hope family and was hoping there might be a connection with my branch of the family.
My grandfather Thomas and his wife Margaret Lilias Black emigrated to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada shortly after the South African Boer War. He was born in Edinburgh Scotland on June 24 1876, the son of Robert Hope and Elizabeth Boag who were married in Abercorn Scotland in June,1856.He was one of nine children. His siblings were Mathew Fielder, Elizabeth, Margaret, William, Helen, Mary, Robert Fielder, and Charles.
As far as I can trace, my grandfather's father was the son of Mathew and Hope and Margaret Ormiston.
If this helps anyone tracing the Hopes, great. And if it gives me a few clues at the same time, even better.
thanks, Marty Hope

I would appreciate it if you would post his on your page, Brett. I enjoyed Don's piece on the origin of the name. I've been so busy in other directions that I really have not had time to check out the Hope line, but would love
to make some connections! Thanks.

I am searching for James Henry Hope born abt. 1865 in either KY or ID. On the census he lists KY as birth place but family members think it is Indiana.
They think he had a twin sister by the name of Fannie and brothers by the name of Marshal and Tonie or Lonie but we aren't sure of this either. He was
suppose to have lived in KY around Bowling Green and moved to Texas when he was 16. He married Lula Elizabeth Dorsey 25 December 1899. He lived in
Blooming Grove, Navarro Co., Texas until his death in 1935. I would really like to hear from anyone on this family.

I am seeking information on the ancestors of John Hope (brother George, sisters Jessie and Isobel) born in Galashiels Scotland in 1868 and subsequently lived on a farm at Westerton Durham England. He married Maggie Mc
Neillie from Gatehouse of Fleet in Scotland in 1902.

My ancestor Austin Cason b. 1791 in VA was living in Fluvanna Co VA in 1825. I was told he married Nancy Hope. I have been unable to prove this marriage. I know that he is buried beside his wife Nancy who was born in VA and died in Hopkinsville KY, 1/19/1839. I just received the will of Reuben Cason father of Austin, who died in Fluvanna Co. VA in 1825. He describes
his land as adjoining the land of the two HOPE families. In the inventory of the sale of his estate there is listed Giles HOPE, Thomas HOPE and Moody J. HOPE. Does anyone have information that would show the children of these fellows and possibly turn up info on my Nancy.
Updated information on my Hope ancestors:
My ancestor Augustine M. (Austin) Cason married Nancy D. Hope in 1820 in Fluvanna Co, VA.
The Fluvanna Co will book 2 page 157 has the will of James Hope. The will was written 6/7/1814 and mentions his unmarried daughter Nancy D., Elizabeth, Moody J., Thomas, Mildred, William, Giles, John P. and James.
Elizabeth was married to Christopher Clarke.
Austin and Nancy Hope Cason migrated to Christian Co. KY between 1830 and 1840. Nancy died in Ky 1/9/1839 and is buried in the Cason Cemetery near Hopkinsville KY.

I am researching my Hope line out of Virginia. My earliest known Hope is my GG-grandfather, James Thomas Hope. He was born in 1794 in VA (as, presumably, were his parents) according to census info. James Thomas
married Phoebe White in Frederick Co. VA in 1825. I think they were probably married in Front Royal based on circumstantial evidence. They lived in Page Co. VA for a while (I suspect somehow related to Hope Mills, a
mill and a settlement just outside of Luray) but eventually settled in Front Royal where James Thomas was apparently part owner of and/or ran the "Hope
and Haynie Mill". James Thomas had several daughters and two sons, one of whom died young. The second, George Henry Hope (my G-grandfather) was in the Confederate Army during the War for Southern Independence and was on
Beauregard"s staff, I believe as a bookkeeper or something of that sort. He met and married Eliza Spencer (adopted name Murphy) from Blackville South Carolina. They lived in Georgia for a while then moved to Charleston SC where he died in 1897. They had two sons and several daughters. His first son died young and the second, George Henry Jr. married Florence Marion Zorn
from Denmark SC and they lived there for the rest of their lives. They were my grandparents. I have been unable to find any information on James Thomas and/or Phoebe White before their marriage in Virginia in 1825.

I am a retired Naval Officer, who went from Seaman Recruit to Lieutenant over a 26 year carreer. I returned to my home town of Walla Walla in 1989. I started my family research as a hobby to fill in the time while on
deployments to the less than exotic parts of our world. Needless to say I got hooked; trying to find "facts" on our family was like looking for the Russians in a snow storm, you know they are there but where.
My family tree is:
My current project is to identify if the Thomas Hope that died in 1707/8was our ancestor or not. If it wasn't him, then who was it? Was it his brother Francis? I am still very open on this subject.
I believe we will find some of the answers at Swarthmore College at the Quaker History Library. All of the old "Friends" meeting records are stored on microfinch there. All of my research documents that the early Hope's were Quakers but converted to Presbyterian when "disowned" by the Friends. Someone in the family needs to spend a lot of time at the library going through all of the records prior to 1710 or so. I have wanted to make the trip but Deb and I just haven't had the time.

My HOPE line is through Margaret HOPE b. ca 1720, probably in Scotland. >She is presumably the sister of James HOPE who m. (1) Annie __?__ and (2) Catherine Clendennin. Margaret married Hugh ALLISON (also a
Scottish immigrant). They lived in East Nottingham Township, Chester County, PA for a good many years, had a short sojourn in Harford County, MD and ended up in York Co., SC. Two of their children married HOPE cousins.

I am descended from a man who was adopted (formal or informal, we don't know) by Joseph Shaw HOPE, one of 14 children (only 13 survived) of James and Jane HOPE who immigrated to Hope's Hollow (outside of Pittsburgh), PA in the early 1800s. A few of James' and Jane's children
were born in England, the rest were born in Hope's Hollow. I have the names and dates for most, if not all, of James' and Jane's children, and some info for those lines. We do not know how James Blaine HOPE came
into the household. All the other family members in this household are accounted for (relatives of Joseph Shaw HOPE's wife Rebecca Jane SILK HOPE).
